Our Fair Housing Commitment
Modern Market REALTORS® is committed to and abides by the federal Fair Housing Act and the fair housing laws of Minnesota and North Dakota. We follow them with every home we list, show, market and sell, and with every client and customer.
We never treat anyone differently because of race, color, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, familial status, marital status, age, or receipt of public assistance. That covers every characteristic federal law, Minnesota law, North Dakota law and the REALTOR® Code of Ethics protect, and we hold ourselves to all of it in both states.
Who Fair Housing Laws Protect
Each law names the characteristics it protects. Where a home is matters: a Moorhead home is covered by federal and Minnesota law, a Fargo home by federal and North Dakota law.
| Law | Protects |
|---|---|
| Federal Fair Housing Act (42 U.S.C. §§ 3601–3619) | Race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin |
| Minnesota Human Rights Act (Minn. Stat. § 363A.09) | Race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, disability, sexual orientation, familial status |
| North Dakota housing discrimination law (N.D.C.C. ch. 14-02.5) | Race, color, religion, sex, disability, age, familial status, national origin, status with respect to marriage or public assistance |
| REALTOR® Code of Ethics, Article 10 (National Association of REALTORS®) | Race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity |
How We Work
- Everyone gets the same service: the same homes, the same information and the same time and attention.
- We show every home that fits your search and never steer anyone toward or away from a neighborhood, a building or a school district.
- Our listings and ads describe the home, never the kind of person who should live in it.
- We make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities. Tell us what would help.
If You Were Treated Unfairly
Tell us first if you can, and we will make it right: call (701) 205-5517 or email jim@modernmarketrealtors.com. You can also file a complaint with a fair housing agency:
- U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), for anywhere in the U.S.
- Minnesota Department of Human Rights, for homes in Minnesota
- North Dakota Department of Labor and Human Rights, for homes in North Dakota
