Horace and Fargo carry the route: 16 and 16 of the 43 entries — nearly three-quarters of the parade — sit in those two cities, most of them in south-metro neighborhoods a few minutes apart. If you have one afternoon, start there. When is the Fall 2026 Parade of Homes?

Two long weekends: September 19–21 and September 26–28, 2026. Homes are open noon–5 PM Saturday and Sunday, and 3–7 PM Monday.

Sixty-five falls of open doors

The Parade of Homes has run since the fall of 1961, when the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead — founded in 1956, today the Building Industry Association of the Red River Valley — first opened its members' new homes to the public. Sixty-five years later it's a twice-a-year institution: a spring edition in May, a fall edition in late September, free both times.

The format has barely changed because it works. Builders put their best work on the route — this fall, 42 new homes and one remodel from 22 member builders — and the public walks in with no appointment and no pressure. What has changed is the map: this year's route runs heaviest through Horace and south Fargo, the metro's new-construction center of gravity.
